One to many: methods and issues of repatriation and proactive archiving

This paper will discuss the various efforts of the World and Traditional Music section
at the British Library to meet the responsibilities of a large international organization
to make their collections appropriately available to cultural heritage communities
around the world. The focus will be on our efforts at offline repatriation providing
examples of the uses of repatriated materials by cultural heritage communities. The
paper will also address institutional strategies for dissemination (for example, how do
we disseminate and collaborate while also maintaining our “unique selling point”, and
how do we ensure recognition of our institution’s efforts once the collections are
“released”?).
