Large Scale Video Migrations in context of customer experiences

Many different large scale video migration projects are in progress in various archives and institutions. Some of them are relying on well approved technology, some of them are seeking to invent new methods, and many of them have not come yet to an end of their efforts. File logistics are obviously a challenging part of the technical infrastructure. The constant productivity of 16*7 or even 24*7 shift digitization processes is an obvious demand that cannot be just be seen from the scope of technical throughput measures and availability percentages of storage systems. Technical workflows that support unexpected down-times and following catchup peaks in file transfers are an evident requirement to keep the productivity of the ingest processes continuously high. Expensive employment allocation on the one hand, an affordable sizing on temporary storage on the other hand as well as continuous exploitation from the archive on the 3rd are some of the many demands in such large scale projects.
The paper will give an overview on how NOA approached the topics in existing large scale systems and will present different ways and strategies from its 12 years experience in the archive domain.
