Rajasthan – Music, Archives and fun
This is a 5 day tour led by Shubha Chaudhuri sharing fieldwork and archive experiences in Western Rajasthan, with cooperation from Rupayan Sansthan, Jodhpur. The pace is meant not be hectic, and includes local sights and experiences with reasonable but charming hotels. For those who want conducted fieldwork! For those who plan to fly the total cost per head will be Rs. 33,586 for single occupancy and Rs. 27,400 for those who wish to share a room.
For those who would like to take an overnight train to Jodhpur the total cost would be Rs. 26,988 for single occupancy and Rs. 20,823 for those who wish to share a room. (The air fares have been computed at current rates).
The payment for this tour is in two parts, of which the advance is to be paid to CHIME online for a confirmed place on the tour.
The advance amount includes train or plane fare according to your choice and hotels in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, and airport/station transfers in Delhi. The balance of Rs. 10,700 will be payable at Delhi in INR and will cover all transport and event costs in Rajasthan.

Those who wish to travel by train will have to leave on the 12th night and will reach Jodhpur early morning.

Arrive by air at Jodhpur. Check in at hotel and rest, free afternoon. Evening at Arna Jharna Desert museum, for a musical performance by Langa musicians and vegetarian Rajasthani dinner. www.arnajharna.org
14th October Day 2.
Visit Rupayan Sansthan archive of Rajasthan music and folklore founded by Komal Kothari, scholar and activist who introduced Rajasthani music to the world, and was the greatest authority on Rajasthani music.
Visit Mehrangarh Fort, one of the finest in Rajasthan. The museum in the Mehrangarh fort is one of the most well-stocked museums in Rajasthan. In one section of the fort museum there is a selection of old royal palanquins, including the elaborate domed gilt Mahadol palanquin which was won in a battle from the Governor of Gujarat in 1730. The museum exhibits the heritage of the Rathores in arms, costumes, paintings and decorated period rooms.
Mehrangarh Fort is also a favorite spot for Bollywood and Hollywood movies. Filming of the last installment of the Batman Series, The Dark Knight Rises, was also done at Mehrangarh Fort
Post lunch visit crafts centres for woodcarving, tie dye weaving and local embroidered footwear.

15th October. Day 3.
Early start for Jaisalmer by car (262 Kms, 5 hours). Arrive in Jaisalmer and check in hotel. Lunch, rest and wander around Jaisalmer fort.
Jaisalmer fort built in yellow sandstone with intricate carving, is thus known as the golden fort. It is one of the few that still retains its original structure inhabited by people who have lived there. There are small hotels and guest houses inside the Fort... Tour of fort, crafts shops etc.
Dinner at leisure.
16th October Day 4
Visit a community archive of the Manganiar Lok Sangeet Sansthan in the “musician colony”. After lunch
17th October Day 5

Morning start for Jodhpur to catch the afternoon flight to Delhi. Arrive in Delhi. Transfer to hotel .
Hotels proposed : Devi Bhavan or Ratan Vilas, Jodhpur. Desert Boyz Guest House, Jaisalmer Fort
The package is based on Standard Rooms, but Deluxe Rooms are available for those interested at extra payment.
